Schools nationwide instructed to screen Chalo Jeete Hain as part of educational initiative and re-release in theatres.

The Union government has mandated schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and the Navodaya Vidyalayas Samiti to screen the film Chalo Jeete Hain. This film, which draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood, is to be shown between September 16 and October 2, as reported by The Hindu. This directive comes just prior to the prime minister’s birthday on September 17.

A letter issued by the Union Ministry of Education on September 11 emphasized the film’s potential to encourage young learners to contemplate themes such as character, service, and responsibility. The ministry described the film as a valuable resource for moral reasoning, supporting goals related to social-emotional learning, including the development of empathy, self-reflection, and critical thinking. The communication noted that the film could inspire students by illustrating life stories and ethical dilemmas.

In addition to the film screenings, the ministry is also rolling out an experiential learning program titled “Prerana”. This program is taking place at the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar in Gujarat, where Prime Minister Modi began his educational journey. The Prerana program includes storytelling, value-based sessions, indigenous games, and audio-visual learning activities. The letter stated that film screenings are integral to this program, aiming to bring abstract values and human emotions to life.

Chalo Jeete Hain has been included in the Prerana program and has reportedly made a significant impact on participants, who have internalized its messages and reflected on their attitudes and actions. The film, which was initially released in 2018, tells the story of young Naru, who is inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy. The narrative focuses on his quest to understand and embody the essence of selflessness and service.

On September 11, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that Chalo Jeete Hain would be re-released in theatres across India from September 17 to October 2. The ministry characterized the film as a poignant cinematic tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s belief that true success comes from living for others. The re-release aims to disseminate its timeless message of selflessness and service to a new generation, enhancing its reach and impact.

Moreover, PVR INOX Limited has also confirmed that it will conduct week-long screenings of Chalo Jeete Hain from September 18 to September 24. The initiative reflects a coordinated effort to engage students and the broader public with themes of moral and ethical significance, inspired by both the film and the teachings of influential figures in Indian history.
