Court imposes restrictions on MLA Chaitar Vasava’s movements following bail approval in serious charges.
The Gujarat High Court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava, who has been incarcerated since July in connection with an alleged attempt to murder case. The decision was made on Monday by Justice MR Mengdey, who approved the bail plea while imposing specific conditions on Vasava’s movements.
As part of the bail conditions, Chaitar Vasava is prohibited from entering the Dediapada taluka in the Narmada district for one year. This restriction is significant, given that Dediapada is the constituency represented by Vasava.
The case against the MLA stems from an incident that occurred during an official meeting on July 5, where he was accused of attacking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Vasava. According to the first information report (FIR) filed at the Dediapada police station, the altercation began when Chaitar Vasava allegedly expressed his displeasure towards the woman president of the Sagbara taluka panchayat after his nominee was not selected for a local coordination committee.
Reports indicate that when Sanjay Vasava intervened in the dispute, Chaitar Vasava allegedly threw a mobile phone at him, which resulted in an injury to the BJP leader’s head. Furthermore, it is claimed that Vasava attempted to strike Sanjay Vasava with a glass during the confrontation. However, police personnel present at the meeting intervened and prevented any further escalation of the situation.
Chaitar Vasava has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These include serious allegations such as attempt to murder, as well as charges related to insulting the modesty of a woman, causing voluntary hurt, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult along with damage to property.
Prior to this ruling, Vasava had sought bail through a sessions court in Rajpipla, which had denied his application. Earlier this month, he was granted a brief, three-day temporary bail to participate in the state Assembly’s monsoon session. The current bail decision marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings against him, as he continues to face serious allegations that have implications for his political career.
