Strong allegations arise as manager of educational institute faces multiple charges of misconduct and forgery.
In a troubling incident in southwest Delhi, at least 15 students from an educational institute affiliated with an ashram have accused the manager, Chaitanyananda Saraswati, of molestation. The allegations were reported by The Indian Express on Wednesday, revealing that the complaints were made by students who are part of the economically weaker section quota. The manager is currently absconding, prompting the Delhi Police to initiate a search for him.
The disturbing revelations emerged in August when one of the institute’s administrators alerted the police about the alleged misconduct. Following this, the police conducted inquiries and gathered statements from several students. Their investigation revealed that approximately 17 students reported that Saraswati had engaged in inappropriate behavior, which included the use of abusive language, sending obscene messages, and making unwanted physical contact on a recurring basis.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amit Goel, the allegations extend beyond individual misconduct. The victims also claimed that certain women serving as faculty and administrators at the institute had allegedly abetted Saraswati’s actions. They purportedly pressured the students to comply with his demands, exacerbating the situation.
The legal ramifications for Saraswati are significant. He has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relate to sexual harassment, the intention to insult the modesty of women, and criminal intimidation. This legal action reflects the serious nature of the allegations against him.
In addition to the molestation charges, the police have initiated a separate case against Saraswati for allegedly using a vehicle with a fake diplomatic number plate. This adds another layer of complexity to the case, as it involves allegations of fraud and forgery. The police registered this case under sections that pertain to the misuse of property marks, cheating, and the creation of false documents.
The ashram has publicly distanced itself from Saraswati, stating that he engaged in activities that are illegal and inappropriate. The institution has claimed that it has severed all ties with him in light of the serious allegations.
