BENGALURU, March 11: A 23-year-old worker from Mizoram, identified as Polim Chakma, died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while working at a factory in Bengaluru.
The tragic incident occurred at Beamer Food and Beverages Pvt. Ltd. located in Electronic City on March 11, 2026. Reports indicate that the victim was cleaning or handling machinery at the time when he came into contact with a live electrical source.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death at Parappana Agrahara Police Station under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Authorities conducted a post-mortem examination at St John’s Medical College Hospital and said further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The case has drawn attention from community groups, with the Bangalore Chakma Students Association (BCSA) and the All India Chakma Students Union (AICSU) closely monitoring developments. Representatives stated that workers had previously raised concerns over possible electrical hazards at the facility and stressed the need for stronger safety compliance.
Community members also highlighted delays in completing post-incident procedures, noting that timely response is crucial, particularly in cases involving migrant workers.
In response, a senior official from the company expressed condolences and assured financial assistance, including ₹2–3 lakh as immediate relief, transfer of one year’s salary to the victim’s father, and coverage of transportation and related expenses.
However, BCSA has urged the company to extend additional support, pointing out that the victim’s father lives with a disability.
Polim Chakma, a resident of Ajasara village in Lawngtlai district, had moved to Bengaluru in search of livelihood opportunities. The incident has sparked calls for accountability and improved worker safety standards.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
