RJD leader vows to provide government jobs to every family within 20 days of taking office.
Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), made a significant announcement regarding employment opportunities in Bihar as the state prepares for its Assembly elections. He pledged that if his party secures victory, every family in Bihar would receive at least one government job within 20 days of the RJD coming to power. This promise is framed within a broader commitment to enact a special employment Act aimed at addressing the issue of unemployment in the state.
During a press conference, Yadav criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, asserting that it had failed to provide adequate job opportunities for the past two decades. His remarks highlight the ongoing concerns regarding employment in Bihar, an issue that resonates with many voters. Yadav emphasized that the RJD-led coalition intends to implement the special employment Act swiftly, ensuring that within 20 months, every family will have at least one member employed in a government position.
Reflecting on previous commitments, Yadav noted that he had made similar promises during the last Assembly elections held in 2020. He pointed out that during his brief tenure as deputy chief minister, from August 2022 to January 2024, his administration successfully created five lakh jobs. He expressed confidence that had he been granted a full five-year term, the number of job opportunities could have been significantly higher.
The context of his statements also involves a political history with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who had previously formed a government in coalition with the RJD and Congress. This alliance lasted for 17 months before Kumar switched allegiances to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in January 2024. Yadav’s current promises are part of a strategic campaign to regain power in the state, leveraging the dissatisfaction with the current government’s performance.
Addressing the media, Yadav described the announcement as historic, underlining his party’s commitment to achieving economic justice alongside social justice for the people of Bihar. His statements resonate with the electorate’s needs, especially in the context of rising unemployment and economic challenges faced by families in the region.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to occur in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting set for November 14. The RJD is expected to contest these elections in alliance with Congress and other opposition parties, collectively known as the INDIA bloc. This coalition aims to challenge the ruling government, which includes Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the BJP, alongside other smaller partners in the NDA.
