Indian diplomat Naren Dhar was found dead inside the Indian Assistant High Commission premises in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on Tuesday, according to local police officials.
Authorities stated that Dhar’s body was recovered from the diplomatic complex and sent for postmortem examination. Officials said there were no immediate indications of foul play, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the final medical report is released.
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) coordinated with the Indian High Commission regarding recovery procedures and legal formalities.
“The postmortem of Naren Dhar has been completed, and the body has been handed over to the Indian High Commission,” CMP Commissioner Hasan Md Showkat Ali told ANI. He added that preliminary observations suggested the possibility of natural causes, but authorities are awaiting the final report.
Officials also confirmed that the body has been kept in preservation facilities while arrangements are being completed for repatriation to India. CMP spokesperson Aminur Rashid stated that the remains would be returned to Dhar’s family after official procedures are completed.
Indian and Bangladeshi authorities are continuing coordination in the matter. Further statements from the Ministry of External Affairs and local authorities are expected after the autopsy findings and related formalities are completed.
