LG Calls on Writers to Counter Distorted Narratives at Kashmir Literature Festival

Srinagar, May 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday urged writers, authors and intellectuals to play a constructive role in fostering informed public discourse through literature and creative expression.

Inaugurating the third edition of the Kashmir Literature Festival in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor said literature has the power to inspire society and shape public thought through fiction, non-fiction and other creative forms. He remarked that a writer’s influence extends beyond words and is reflected in the aspirations and sentiments of the people.

Emphasising the need to preserve the nation’s historical and cultural heritage, Sinha said that efforts should continue to remove what he described as remnants of a colonial mindset. He also stated that India’s history and contemporary realities should not be misrepresented.

He said writers have an important responsibility in presenting factual narratives, correcting inaccuracies and helping readers gain a broader understanding of the country’s history and contemporary developments.

The Lieutenant Governor urged the literary community to use creative platforms to promote awareness, cultural understanding and intellectual engagement. He added that literature can serve as a powerful instrument for social transformation and constructive dialogue.

The Kashmir Literature Festival has brought together noted writers, scholars, poets and literary enthusiasts from across the country for discussions on literature, culture, history and contemporary issues. The event aims to encourage intellectual exchange and celebrate the rich literary heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
