Siddaramaiah Steps Down as Karnataka CM, Centre Admits to CBSE Evaluation Flaws

In a significant political shift in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, the Congress party stalwart, has announced his resignation as Chief Minister. This move aligns with the directives from the party’s leadership, with Siddaramaiah stating, “I am making way for a new chief minister.” He confirmed that he has submitted his resignation to the governor’s office, which is expected to be accepted shortly. Despite being offered a seat in the Rajya Sabha, Siddaramaiah expressed his desire to remain active in state politics, indicating a commitment to his roots and responsibilities within Karnataka.

The political landscape is now abuzz with speculation about Siddaramaiah’s successor. D. K. Shivakumar, another influential figure in the Congress party and currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister, is being touted as the most likely candidate to take over the chief ministerial role. Shivakumar’s ascent to leadership could herald a new chapter for the Congress in Karnataka, especially as the party gears up for upcoming elections amid a backdrop of challenges.

In another major development, the Union Government has acknowledged the ongoing issues concerning the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) evaluation process, specifically the On-Screen Marking system. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan made a statement recognizing the discrepancies, asserting that the government takes full responsibility for the glitches reported during the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. This admission came after numerous complaints from students about inconsistencies, with many alleging that the scanned copies of their answer sheets did not correspond with their handwriting, raising serious concerns about the accuracy of the evaluation system.

Pradhan assured the public of stringent action against anyone found culpable of causing these irregularities, emphasizing that the government is committed to transparency and accountability in the education sector. He defended the on-screen marking system as a globally recognized and student-centric approach designed to enhance the evaluation process. Nonetheless, the past weeks have seen a surge in student unrest, with many taking to social media and public forums to voice their dissatisfaction and the need for reforms in the assessment methods employed by the CBSE.

These developments reveal a crucial moment for both Karnataka’s political environment and the educational framework governed by the CBSE. As Siddaramaiah’s departure opens new avenues for leadership in Karnataka, the central government’s response to the CBSE fiasco could determine the trust of millions of students and their families in the national education system.
