Tiruchi Strengthens Ebola Preparedness With Special Hospital Ward and Airport Screening

Authorities in Tiruchi have intensified precautionary measures following recent Ebola virus disease outbreaks reported in parts of Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

A special isolation ward has been established at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, while health screening measures have been introduced at Tiruchi International Airport as part of preventive surveillance efforts.

Health officials said the preparedness measures were implemented following global health alerts and advisories issued regarding Ebola monitoring and international travel screening.

As Tiruchi operates an international airport with connectivity to multiple countries, local health authorities have increased monitoring and emergency response readiness.

Officials confirmed that a dedicated 10-bed isolation ward has been created at MGMGH to handle any suspected Ebola-related cases if required.

“We are also strengthening hygiene and sanitation measures to ensure safety for patients and the public,” a hospital official stated.

At Tiruchi International Airport, a medical screening desk staffed by healthcare personnel has reportedly been operational to monitor passengers arriving from countries identified as high-risk regions for Ebola transmission.

According to Health Department officials, no suspected Ebola cases have been identified among passengers arriving at the airport so far. However, surveillance and screening activities will continue as a precautionary measure.
