Administrative Preparations for Smooth Conduct of Elections in Golaghat District: 1,158 Polling Stations to Facilitate Voting for 902,657 Electors.

Ahead of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for 9 April 2026, preparations in Golaghat district are nearly complete, according to the district administration. In the five assembly constituencies of Golaghat district—103 Golaghat, 104 Dergaon, 105 Bokakhat, 106 Khumtai, and 107 Sarupathar—candidates from various parties have filed nominations and been accepted. The candidate are –
– Golaghat constituency: Ajanta Neog, Bitupan Saikia, and Rubul Bora
– Khumtai constituency: Ashish Hazarika, Mrinal Saikia, Rozlina Tirkey, Amit Nag, and Bhadreshwar Dusad
– Sarupathar constituency: Biswajit Phukan, Jibon Sutiya, and Sahil Munda
– Bokakhat constituency: Atul Bora, Vivekananda Rajowar, Hari Prasad Saikia, Jiten Gogoi, Pranab Doley, and Hemanta Doley
– Dergaon constituency: Pulin Gogoi, Mridul Kumar Dutta, and Sagarika Bora

Across the district’s constituencies, 1,158 polling stations have been set up—88 in urban areas and 1,070 in rural areas.
– Golaghat: 268 (43 urban, 225 rural)
– Dergaon: 235 (9 urban, 226 rural)
– Bokakhat: 212 (11 urban, 201 rural)
– Khumtai: 230 (all rural)
– Sarupathar: 213 (25 urban, 188 rural)

On polling day, 902,657 voters will be eligible to cast their votes: 444,762 men, 457,885 women, and 10 transgender voters.
Constituency-wise voter details:
– Golaghat: 99,458 men, 101,927 women, 2 transgender, 1,433 persons with disabilities, 793 voters above 45 years, 5,050 voters aged 18–19, and 382 service voters.
– Dergaon: 87,114 men, 90,415 women, 1,147 persons with disabilities, 585 voters above 45 years, 4,123 voters aged 18–19, and 171 service voters.
– Bokakhat: 79,952 men, 84,695 women, 1 transgender, 2,016 persons with disabilities, 525 voters above 45 years, 4,114 voters aged 18–19, and 350 service voters.
– Khumtai: 84,124 men, 87,568 women, 5 transgender, 1,715 persons with disabilities, 582 voters above 45 years, 169 service voters, and 4,443 voters aged 18–19.
– Sarupathar: 94,114 men, 93,280 women, 2 transgender, 1,849 persons with disabilities, 595 voters above 45 years, 642 service voters, and 4,450 voters aged 18–19.
Sensitive polling stations have been identified:
– Khumtai constituency: Kurukagaon Middle English School (No. 167) marked as sensitive.
– Sarupathar constituency: Johuk Memorial School (No. 213) marked as highly sensitive.
Additional security and micro-observers will be deployed at these locations.
Women-managed polling stations:
Out of the total, 258 polling stations will be managed entirely by women in Golaghat District:
– Golaghat: 53
– Dergaon: 54
– Bokakhat: 46
– Khumtai: 36
– Sarupathar: 69
Each constituency will also have a model polling station:
– Golaghat: Kushal Konwar Balya Bhavan
– Dergaon: Dergaon Town Girls’ Higher Secondary School
– Bokakhat: Bokakhat Girls’ Higher Secondary School
– Khumtai: Tuleswari Baruah Moinapara Higher Secondary School
– Sarupathar: Simluchapori Lower Primary School
Transparency will be enhanced through webcasting facilities at every polling station.
EVM and VVPAT arrangements:
The district has prepared 1,740 Ballot Units (BU), 1,855 Control Units (CU), and 1,796 VVPAT machines. Flying Squad Teams (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) have been formed to enforce election rules. Each constituency has 9 FSTs and 9 SSTs, totaling 45 teams each across the district.
For effective management, the district has appointed 35 Zonal Officers and 107 Sector Officers. To conduct the polls, 1,390 Presiding Officers, 1,390 First Polling Officers, 1,390 Second Polling Officers, and 1,390 Third Polling Officers have already collected ballot materials and departed for their respective stations.
Special voters:
Despite extensive preparations, the district administration has not arranged for Form 12D postal ballots for senior citizens above 60 years and persons with disabilities.
