AIMIM Cuts Ties with Humayun Kabir's Party Following Controversial Video Claims

The political landscape of West Bengal is witnessing a significant shift as the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced its decision to end its alliance with the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, led by former state minister Humayun Kabir. This move comes on the heels of a controversial video that has gone viral, in which Kabir is allegedly seen discussing a deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed at destabilizing the Mamata Banerjee-led government.

In the video, shared widely on social media, Kabir purportedly claims that he and leaders from the BJP had orchestrated a Rs 1,000 crore arrangement to mislead the Muslim community and undermine the ruling party. The clip was brought to light by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has been vocal in its accusations against both Kabir and the BJP, framing the situation as a serious threat to the integrity of the state’s democratic processes.

Responding to the allegations, Kabir has dismissed the video as a fabrication, asserting that it is an artificial intelligence-generated deepfake crafted as part of a smear campaign against him. He has firmly denied any collusion with the BJP and has appealed to the public to view the claims with skepticism. Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar has distanced the party from the controversy, stating that they have no knowledge about the contents of the video and emphasizing that it is Kabir’s responsibility to clarify the matter.

The AIMIM’s decision to sever ties with Kabir’s party underscores its commitment to maintaining its integrity and protecting the interests of the Muslim community, a demographic that plays a pivotal role in West Bengal’s electoral politics. In a statement released on social media, AIMIM expressed that it cannot be associated with any remarks that call into question the dignity and integrity of Muslims. This marks a significant moment for the party, as it seeks to assert its position in the state’s complex political arena.

As the Assembly elections approach, the political fray is heating up, with parties scrambling to solidify alliances and consolidate their voter bases. The TMC and the BJP are engaged in a fierce battle for dominance, and the fallout from the Kabir video has added another layer of intrigue to an already contentious electoral environment. The developments surrounding Kabir’s claims and AIMIM’s withdrawal may have far-reaching implications for the electoral strategies of all parties involved.
