AIMIM Leader Haji Shaukat Ali Faces Legal Action for Alleged Provocative Speech at Eid Event in Meerut

The political climate in Uttar Pradesh has taken a contentious turn as Haji Shaukat Ali, the state president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has been booked by local authorities for allegedly making inflammatory comments during an Eid celebration in Meerut. This incident has sparked significant media attention and raised questions about political rhetoric in the lead-up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

According to reports, the event took place at a private farmhouse on Monday without the necessary governmental permissions. Following the event, which was reportedly attended by a considerable number of individuals, police authorities swiftly arrested three AIMIM office-bearers involved in organizing the gathering. The action was taken after a video surfaced on social media, showing Ali making remarks that many interpret as provocative.

In the video, Ali allegedly stated, “Give me just 11 MLAs, and I promise that if a Muslim is killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh, those who are responsible for the encounter will also face an encounter.” This statement has raised alarms among law enforcement and community leaders, who argue that such rhetoric could incite tension among different religious communities. Furthermore, Ali criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s policies, particularly concerning the closure of madrasas and the demolition of homes belonging to community members.

Meerut Superintendent of Police Antriksh Jain confirmed that a case has been filed at the Lohiya Nagar police station, emphasizing that the charges against Ali and the arrested leaders include promoting enmity between different groups and making statements that could lead to social unrest. Jain remarked, “The speeches were intended to create enmity between different religions and communities and affect law and order.” As political tensions rise in the region, the police are under pressure to maintain order and ensure the safety of all communities.

This incident is a part of a broader pattern where political leaders are often scrutinized for their statements, especially in sensitive contexts such as religious festivals. It raises critical questions about freedom of speech and the responsibilities that come with political discourse. As the country gears up for upcoming elections, such situations emphasize the delicate balance between political expression and the potential for communal discord.
