Alarming Attempt on Ex-J&K CM Farooq Abdullah's Life at Wedding Function

In a shocking incident during a wedding ceremony in Jammu, a man was apprehended after he allegedly tried to shoot former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah. The attempt occurred in the Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, as Abdullah was leaving the event alongside Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. Thankfully, Abdullah emerged unscathed from this harrowing encounter.

The individual arrested has been identified as Kamal Singh, as confirmed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Security forces, including personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the National Security Guard (NSG), acted swiftly to prevent a potential tragedy. They not only thwarted the attack but also recovered the firearm from Singh, demonstrating the effectiveness of the security detail assigned to Abdullah.

Omar Abdullah, the former chief minister’s son, expressed relief, stating that it was his father’s security team that successfully deflected the shot, ensuring their safety during what could have been a fatal encounter. In a heartfelt social media post, he remarked, “My father had a very close shave.” This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of political figures in the region, especially given the ongoing tensions in Jammu and Kashmir.

The wedding, hosted at Royal Park, was meant to be a joyous occasion but turned into a scene of chaos. Witnesses reported the immediate panic that ensued, with guests scrambling for safety. Local authorities are now investigating the motive behind this grave act, which has shocked the community.

As investigations continue, the incident underscores the urgent need for heightened security measures for prominent political leaders in the region. It serves as a stark reminder that even public celebrations can turn dangerous in an environment still grappling with political volatility.
