“Alleged LPG Shortage in Golaghat Leads to Rising Prices and Public Distress”

“In Golaghat town of Assam, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has risen to ₹3,500 and commercial cylinders sold in the black market for ₹5,000.”

April 2 – 2026 :

In Golaghat town of Assam a domestic LPG cylinder is being sold in the black market for ₹3,000 to ₹3,500. Similarly, commercial cylinders are being sold for ₹5,000. Local citizens have demanded that the unscrupulous groups running this black market and artificially inflating gas prices be identified and punished.

It is worth noting that the current price of a domestic cylinder at Golaghat gas agencies is ₹929.50, while a commercial cylinder costs ₹2,196. However, taking advantage of alleged artificial shortages, some dishonest traders have increased the price up to three times, shocking everyone. According to sources at the gas agency, they have not supplied cylinders to customers without registered cards. This raises a big question about where these black-market cylinders are coming from. On the other hand, the agency admits they have not been able to supply commercial cylinders adequately. Previously, customers received domestic cylinders within two to three days of booking, but now even after 15–20 days, many are still waiting, causing distress.

Meanwhile, although the government and agencies claim that the supply of cylinders is sufficient, customers are not receiving them on time, which has become another mystery. Observers argue that if supply were truly adequate, a black market would not have emerged, nor would ordinary people be suffering. The fact that people are forced to buy gas cylinders at triple the price in the black market has sparked discussions across different circles, with many commenting that this issue could even influence the upcoming elections.
