Amit Shah’s Amarnath Yatra Review Meeting Rescheduled to June 12; Preparations Under Review
Jammu, June 8: The high-level review meeting on arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, originally scheduled to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 8, has been rescheduled to June 12 in New Delhi due to prior official engagements, according to official sources.
Sources said senior Jammu and Kashmir officials have been informed about the revised schedule. The meeting will review preparations related to security, healthcare, sanitation, accommodation, transportation and other facilities being arranged for pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage.
According to officials, the review meeting is expected to be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Intelligence Chief Nitish Kumar and other senior officers from Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, senior Ministry of Home Affairs officials, representatives of central armed police forces, intelligence agencies and Army officers are also expected to participate.
Officials stated that a significant turnout of pilgrims is anticipated this year, citing increased tourist arrivals in Jammu and Kashmir and the response received for Yatra registrations.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the occasions of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
Meanwhile, deployment of central security forces for the pilgrimage has commenced across Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned 670 paramilitary companies for Yatra-related security duties.
In the Jammu region, security arrangements are being implemented from Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, covering key transit points including national highways, railway stations, airports, bus terminals and Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas. Security personnel, along with local police, will oversee the movement of pilgrim convoys and security at accommodation centres.
In Kashmir, security and logistical arrangements are being put in place at the Baltal and Nunwan base camps, along both pilgrimage routes and at the cave shrine. Additional measures are also being implemented at designated accommodation and transit locations for pilgrims.
Officials said security and logistical arrangements are being completed ahead of the commencement of the pilgrimage. Preparations include deployment planning, healthcare facilities, communication systems, surveillance measures and coordination among various departments involved in the Yatra.
The review meeting on June 12 will assess the preparedness of security and civil departments and examine arrangements aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, officials said.
