Andhra Pradesh is planning a major expansion of its aviation infrastructure with proposals for nine new airports, supported by an estimated investment of approximately $1 billion. The initiative is aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting economic development across various parts of the state.
The state currently has six operational airports: Visakhapatnam International Airport, Vijayawada International Airport, Tirupati Airport, Rajahmundry Airport, Kadapa Airport and Kurnool Airport.
According to state government plans, new airports have been proposed at Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Srikakulam, Tadepalligudem, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni-Annavaram, Ongole, Palasa and Amaravati near Ravela in Tadikonda mandal.
The proposed Srikakulam airport has completed a feasibility survey and is planned to be developed in two phases over approximately 1,383 acres. Land acquisition activities are currently underway. The Dagadarthi airport project is proposed on around 1,379 acres, with a portion of the required land already acquired.
Other proposed airport locations include Kuppam (1,501 acres), Nagarjuna Sagar (1,670 acres), Tadepalligudem (1,123 acres), Ongole (657 acres), Tuni-Annavaram (757 acres) and Palasa (1,383 acres), according to project plans.
The proposed Amaravati greenfield international airport project near Ravela is planned across approximately 4,618 acres. According to project estimates, the first phase is expected to involve an investment of around ₹3,409 crore. Officials have stated that the airport is intended to strengthen connectivity for the capital region and support future economic activity.
Meanwhile, the under-construction Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district is expected to become operational following completion of its ongoing construction phases. The project has an estimated first-phase cost of approximately ₹45.92 billion and is expected to enhance aviation capacity in the region.
