Assam Agricultural University Celebrates 58th Foundation Day.

Assam Agricultural University (AAU) celebrated its 58th Foundation Day on 1st April 2026 with a series of events at its main campus in Jorhat.

The day-long celebration commenced with the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, hoisting the university flag at the playground. This was followed by a tribute ceremony and a vibrant cultural procession, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff of AAU. The main programme was held at the Madhab Chandra Das Memorial Auditorium. Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University, Haryana, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the Foundation Day Lecture. In his address, he emphasized that in the face of changing environmental conditions, sustaining farming practices in a naturally rich region like Assam is crucial—not only for ecological balance but also for ensuring nutritional security. He further highlighted the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while maintaining environmental balance for overall development. In his welcome address, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of AAU, Prof. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, highlighted the university’s advancements across various sectors and reiterated its commitment to fostering innovation in agriculture. He stressed the role of microbial technology in sustainable agriculture, along with advanced techniques such as the application of artificial intelligence.
During the celebration, prizes were awarded for the best cultural processions: Hostel No. 12 secured first place, followed by Hostel No. 09 in second place, while the AAU Faculty and Staff group secured third position. As in previous years, employees and faculty members were honoured for their outstanding contributions and were presented with certificates of appreciation. In the evening, a friendly football match was held at the university playground between the students and staff of AAU. The celebrations concluded with the illumination of the campus and a mesmerizing cultural programme, featuring performances by students, faculty, and staff.
