In all 126 constituencies of Assam, polling was held today from morning. In constituency number 105, Bokakhat, out of a total of 164,648 voters, 82.11 percent had cast their votes across 212 polling stations. In the 2016 Assembly elections, the turnout was 85.58 percent. While voting in most polling stations was enthusiastic and peaceful, many elderly voters above 80 years in Bokakhat constituency were deprived to cast their vote due to negligence by BLOs. Some octogenarian voters had to struggle greatly to reach polling stations to cast their votes.

At Jyotipur Primary School polling station, NDA candidate Atul Bora and independent candidate Jiten Gogoi cast their votes early in the morning along with their families. Atul Bora arrived in traditional attire to vote. This polling station has the highest number of voters in the constituency, with 1,171 registered.

Meanwhile, at Bokakhat Girls’ Higher Secondary School, the only model polling station in the constituency, voters faced problems as no staff were present at the help desk set up for assistance. Taking advantage of the absence, monkeys created havoc at the help desk. Similarly, facilities such as drinking water and other special arrangements expected at the model polling station were missing.

At Namdoyang Primary School polling station in Bokakhat town, voting was halted for half an hour in the morning due to a malfunction in the voting machine.

It is noteworthy that although polling in the constituency was largely peaceful, at Kakchong Primary School polling station, locals caught a man distributing liquor bottles among voters and handed him over to the police along with the bottles.
