Assam Congress expels 15 members ahead of State Assembly Elections to be held on 9th April, 2026

The Assam Congress took a significant decision, ahead of the state Assembly Elections scheduled to be held in a single phase on the April 9th, by removing 15 party members from it’s ranks for six years.
Assam Pradesh chief Shri Gaurav Gogoi while approving the decision at a key stage of the elections, cited serious breaches of party rules and anti-party behaviour as the reason behind it.
In the official statement released, the party listed the expelled members and their respective constituencies without specifying any detailed charges. The names of those removes are Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah (Titabor), Abul Miah (Gauripur), Aftadur Ali Khan (Chenga), Tapan Das (Udharbond), Sandip Das (Katigorah), Jahurul Islam Barbhuiya (Borkhola), Aziz Ahmed Khan (Karimganj South), Anup Kumar Das (Ram Krishna Nagar), Labaniya Boro (Boko-Chaygaon), Nitul Das (Dimoria), Girindra Kumar Bhuyan (Rangapara), Pallabi Saikia (Tezpur), Mukut Das (Raha), Biju Dowarah (Khowang), and Aynul Hoque (Dalgaon).
At the same time, the party also released its ‘5 Pratishruti’ (Promises) election pledges, which also includes proper justice for Assam’s heartthrob and Youth icon Zubeen Garg within the very first 100 days of the new government.
