Assamese Swimmers Shine at Singapore Swimming Championship: Six Medals for Assam’s Aastha Choudhury, Tirthankar Pegu, Bikram Changmai, and Jahnabi

Competing against swimmers from Japan, China, Canada, and other countries, Assam’s swimmers lit up the pool in Singapore. At the 56th Singapore Open National Swimming Championship, held from March 13 to 22, four swimmers from Assam representing the Indian team won a total of six medals.
In the women’s 200m butterfly event, Aastha Choudhury clinched the gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes 17.09 seconds, setting a new Indian record. She also won a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly event with a timing of 1 minute 02.25 seconds.
Tirthankar Pegu secured two medals: a silver in the men’s 200m butterfly with 1 minute 57.09 seconds, and a bronze in the 400m individual medley with 2 minutes 05.64 seconds.
Meanwhile, Bikram Changmai won bronze in the men’s 100m butterfly with a timing of 54.08 seconds, and Jahnabi Kashyap earned bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle with 2 minutes 06.82 seconds.
It is noteworthy that this championship is highly significant as a qualifying event for the upcoming Asian Games. In the senior category, Indian swimmers overall won 2 gold, 4 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Alongside Aastha Choudhury, the other gold medal was won by Kushagra Rawat in the 1500m freestyle. Olympian Sajan Prakash claimed silver in the men’s 200m butterfly with a timing of 1 minute 57.09 seconds, which also qualified him for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
