Bohag Bihu is the lifeline of Assamese culture. With the arrival of Bohag, Bihu dance and dhol-playing workshops are organized across different parts of the state. These workshops are held to provide systematic training in Bihu dance and dhol-playing to the younger generation.
From March 28, under the initiative of the Bokakhat Regional Students’ Union and with the support of the Town Branch, a workshop titled “Rongalir Uruli at the Threshold of Bohag” was organized. The workshop concluded on April 7. Over 500 trainees participated in this 10-day event. On April 7, the closing ceremony was held at the open stage of the Central Bihutoli in Bokakhat.
The closing ceremony was attended by Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa, President of the Assam State Journalists’ Association, Bhabananda Kalita, President of Bokakhat Press Club; former student leader Sarat Ranjan Sharma; Dwijen Kumar Nath; former President of the All Assam Women Writers’ Association Suwarna Saikia Bordoloi; noted writer Kalpana Chetia; senior citizen Anisur Rahman; retired lecturer Atul Bezbaruah; Bijoy Phukan of the Tai Ahom Students’ Union; Lachit Sutia of the Sutia Students’ Union; Rudra Chetri of the Gorkha Students’ Union; Mintu Gogoi, President of Golaghat District Students’ Union; Chiranjib Bora, its Secretary; Monoj Saikia, President of Bokakhat Sub-Division Students’ Union; Biswajit Deonath, its Secretary; Rupam Jyoti Sharma, President of Bokakhat Regional Students’ Union; and Harshit Chetia Phukan, its Secretary, along with other officials. During the ceremony, the workshop’s trainer, renowned dhulia Deben Gogoi, and Monikanchan Konwar, the Bihu Rani of Naharkatia in 2012, shared their experiences. Anchoring by Samujjal Dutta, the closing event featured captivating Bihu dance performances by the trainees.
