BJP’s NDA Unveils Promises of Free LPG Cylinders and Monthly Pensions for Women in Kerala
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has unveiled an ambitious manifesto for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, pledging significant support for economically vulnerable families across the state. Among the key promises are two free liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders annually for impoverished households, delivered during the festive seasons of Onam and Christmas. This initiative aims to provide relief in light of the recent LPG shortages affecting many regions of the country, which have been exacerbated by the ongoing geopolitical turmoil in West Asia.
During an event held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, BJP President Nitin Nabin detailed the various provisions of the manifesto, emphasizing the party’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Kerala’s residents. In addition to the free cylinders, Nabin announced plans for a high-speed rail network linking the state capital with Kannur, aimed at bolstering connectivity and economic growth in the region. He also mentioned a provision for every household to receive 20,000 liters of free water, underlining the NDA’s focus on basic utilities and public welfare.
Another significant highlight of the NDA’s manifesto is the promise of a Bhakshya Arogya Suraksha Card for all women from below-poverty-line families. This card will come with a monthly recharge of Rs 2,500, which can be utilized at pharmacies and grocery stores, ensuring that essential needs are met. This initiative is envisioned as a critical step toward empowering women and reducing financial strain on struggling households.
Addressing the contentious issue of the Mullaperiyar dam, the BJP assured that, if elected, it would work to ensure a solution beneficial for both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The dam, which has been a source of dispute due to concerns over its structural integrity on one side and its crucial role in irrigation on the other, has long driven a wedge between the two states. Nabin’s statement reflects a diplomatic approach aimed at fostering cooperation and mutual benefit.
As the election draws nearer, the NDA’s promises resonate with a wide segment of the population, particularly among the economically disadvantaged. With the backdrop of ongoing socioeconomic challenges, these commitments could play a pivotal role in swaying voter sentiment. As Kerala’s political landscape evolves, the BJP seeks to position itself as a viable alternative, presenting a vision that addresses the immediate needs of the populace while also laying groundwork for future development.
