Death in Elephant Attack in Golaghat District

Golaghat district has the highest incidence of human-elephant conflict in Assam. The unchecked destruction of forests in neighboring Karbi Anglong district and various human activities around elephant corridors in Golaghat have worsened the problem. Areas such as Morongi, Bokial, Numaligarh, Mikirchang, nearby areas of Nambar Reserve , Borchapori and other foot hills regions have seen a sharp rise in clashes between humans and elephants.
This conflict has already led to the deaths of many elephants and humans in the district. Last night, in Bokial near Numaligarh, a man was killed in an attack by a wild elephant. The deceased has been identified as Rajib Gowala of Burhagohainkhat, Bokial, Numaligarh.
Rajib Gowala encountered a lone wild elephant when he stepped out of his house at night. The elephant attacked him, and he died on the spot. Following reports of the incident, forest officials from the Bokial Range Office arrived at the site to investigate. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
