In a recent development, the Delhi High Court opted not to entertain an urgent plea regarding preventive measures ahead of a protest organized by the satirical political campaign known as the Cockroach Janta Party. The court’s decision was made on Friday, just a day before the scheduled demonstration, as reported by Live Law.
The petition was brought forth by the Save India Foundation, a Delhi-based activist organization. The group sought directives for the Union government and local police to implement necessary regulatory actions to maintain public order during the protest. The Cockroach Janta Party, founded by activist Abhijit Dipke, has organized this event to call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This demand arises following the controversial cancellation of the undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical college admissions, a situation that has sparked outrage after an alleged paper leak.
In their petition, the Save India Foundation expressed concerns that the upcoming protest, if not properly managed, could pose risks to public safety, disrupt traffic, and create security challenges in the capital city. They highlighted that some online content associated with the protest contained inflammatory rhetoric, threats to impede law enforcement efforts, and calls for obstructing essential public infrastructure.
The case was presented before a vacation bench comprising Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma, who, however, declined to prioritize the plea. The court’s refusal to hear the case urgently has raised eyebrows, particularly given the sensitive nature of the protest and the potential impact on the city’s security dynamics.
The Cockroach Janta Party, which describes itself as a ‘political front of the youth,’ aims to engage young people in political discourse through unconventional methods. Their approach often involves satire, reflecting their belief that traditional political processes have failed to address the concerns of the younger generation. As the protest approaches, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond and manage the situation, especially in light of the public safety concerns raised by the Save India Foundation.
