New Delhi, April 4, 2026: In a major crackdown on counterfeit products, the Delhi Police raided a clandestine unit manufacturing fake Sensodyne toothpaste in the Khanjawala area of outer Delhi, arresting the alleged mastermind and seizing large quantities of spurious goods.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a godown in C-Block, Mahaveer Vihar, Khanjawala on April 2-3. Officers recovered approximately 1,800 filled fake Sensodyne tubes, over 10,000 empty tubes, around 1,200 packed tubes, and 130-200 kg of unhygienic toothpaste paste. They also seized filling and sealing machines, heating guns, cartons, and other packaging materials worth several lakhs of rupees.
The arrested individual, Hari Om Mishra (58), a resident of Sector-2, Rohini, allegedly operated the unit without any license. Police said he used to procure empty Sensodyne tubes and fill them with cheap, locally made paste prepared under extremely unhygienic conditions using substandard chemicals. The fake products were then sold in the market, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Senior police officers described the operation as part of a larger drive against counterfeit and expired products. The raid also connects to similar actions against food and beverage repackaging rackets in areas like Dwarka.
A case has been registered against Mishra and others under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Copyright Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and possible wider network.
Health experts have warned that using such counterfeit toothpaste can lead to oral health issues, allergic reactions, and long-term damage due to unknown chemical compositions. Authorities have appealed to citizens to purchase oral care products only from authorized retailers and check for proper seals, holograms, and manufacturing details.
This incident highlights the growing menace of counterfeit FMCG products in the national capital, with police promising continued stringent action against such illegal operations.
