A major fire broke out at a furniture market near the Delhi Metro station in the Shastri Park area of Delhi late Friday night, damaging several shops operating under tin sheds.
According to officials, the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials, including plywood, wooden furniture, and adhesives. The Delhi Fire Services received the emergency call at approximately 11:57 PM and initially dispatched six fire tenders. As the blaze intensified, the number of fire tenders deployed was increased to 25.
During the firefighting operation, a Delhi Fire Services officer sustained injuries after a tin shed reportedly collapsed beneath him. Officials stated that he received medical attention.
Fire Station Officer Anoop Singh requested police assistance after reports of stone pelting near the site during the operation. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Lamba confirmed that police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control. Authorities stated that order was restored quickly and no additional injuries were reported due to the disturbance.
Police maintained security in the area while firefighting operations continued into the early hours of Saturday. Officials later confirmed that the fire had been brought under control.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
