DMK Unveils Ambitious Election Manifesto: Increased Support for Women and Farmers in Tamil Nadu

In a bold move ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has unveiled its election manifesto, promising a slew of significant welfare measures aimed at uplifting women and farmers across the state. Spearheaded by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the manifesto emphasizes economic empowerment and social security, aiming to create a robust support system for the underprivileged.

One of the standout features of the manifesto is the proposal to double the monthly financial assistance for women under the Kalainyar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. Currently, each of the 1.3 crore women beneficiaries receives Rs 1,000, which the DMK pledges to increase to Rs 2,000. This initiative reflects the party’s commitment to enhancing women’s financial independence and providing them with the resources they need for better living standards.

Furthermore, the DMK has introduced the Illathu Arasi scheme, which aims to support homemakers who do not fall under the income tax bracket. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive Rs 8,000 in the form of coupons, allowing them to purchase home appliances according to their individual needs. This initiative is expected to empower many families by making essential household items more accessible.

The manifesto also addresses the concerns of senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. The old-age pension is set to rise from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000, while persons with disabilities will see their monthly support increase to Rs 2,500. The DMK seeks to ensure that vulnerable sections of society are not left behind and that they receive the necessary economic support.

In a move aimed at bolstering healthcare, the party has proposed increasing the income ceiling for the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme to Rs 5 lakh per annum, alongside ramping up the insurance coverage to Rs 10 lakh. This is a significant enhancement, as it aims to provide better health security to more families in Tamil Nadu, ensuring that medical expenses do not become a burden.

Apart from focusing on women and social welfare, the DMK’s manifesto also outlines various schemes tailored for farmers. In a bid to improve agricultural productivity, the party promises the installation of motors without meters for those receiving free electricity. Additionally, there is a commitment to raise the procurement price of paddy to Rs 3,500 per quintal and sugarcane to Rs 4,500 per tonne, which is expected to bolster farmers’ incomes significantly.

Moreover, the DMK intends to extend its Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme, which has already shown positive impacts in schools across the state by ensuring that children receive nutritious meals. This initiative reflects the party’s broader commitment to improving health and education among the youth, thereby fostering a more productive future workforce.

As Tamil Nadu gears up for the elections, the DMK’s manifesto represents not just a political strategy, but also a vision for a more equitable society. With a focus on empowering women, supporting farmers, and enhancing social security measures, the party aims to resonate with the electorate’s aspirations and address the pressing challenges faced by various demographics in the state.
