Doon Book Festival 2026: A Grand Confluence of Books, Ideas and Culture in Dehradun

Dehradun: The National Book Trust (NBT), under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Government, is set to organize the Doon Book Festival 2026 from April 4 to April 12 at Parade Ground in Dehradun. The nine-day literary event will bring together readers, writers, publishers, and artists from across the country.

The announcement was formally made by NBT Director Yuvraj Malik during a press conference. He said the festival aims to go beyond a conventional book fair and is envisioned as a platform for intellectual engagement, dialogue, and the promotion of a vibrant reading culture across age groups.

The festival will be inaugurated on April 4 at 10:30 AM by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The event will also be attended by Acharya Balkrishna and Milind Sudhakar Marathe, among other distinguished guests.

More than 300 stalls will be set up at the venue, showcasing books across multiple languages and genres — including literature, academic works, competitive exam materials, and children’s books. Entry to the festival has been kept free for all visitors.

A key highlight of the event will be the Doon Lit Fest, featuring panel discussions and interactive sessions with noted authors and thinkers. Speakers include Nitin Seth, Kulpreet Yadav, Akhilendra Mishra, Acharya Prashant, and Satish Dua, among others.

The festival will also spotlight regional literature, with participation from more than 50 writers from Garhwali and Kumaoni backgrounds, providing a significant platform for local languages and cultural heritage.
