Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa of Bokakhat appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University.

Former Professor of Assam Agricultural University and retired Joint Director of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (North Eastern Region), agricultural scientist Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa has today been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University by the Governor of Assam. Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, a resident of Bokakhat, is the eldest son of the late Bogai Rajkhowa and the late Sumala Rajkhowa. He began his schooling at Rajabari Higher Secondary School in Bokakhat, later pursued higher studies at J B College, Jorhat, and Assam Agricultural University, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, followed by a prestigious doctorate from the same university. Subsequently, he retired as Joint Director from the ICAR Research Centre in Nagaland.

Dr. Rajkhowa is a distinguished expert in climate-resilient agriculture, water resource management, hill farming systems, and climate change. In 2021, at the 5th International Agronomy Congress held at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Indian Society of Agronomy for his contributions to agriculture.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Rajkhowa played a pioneering role in developing four integrated farming system models, projects on organic crop production, climate change adaptation and mitigation, integrated weed management, and the development of three climate-resilient rice varieties. He also contributed significantly to the promotion of organic and vermicompost technologies across the North Eastern region. In addition, he has published 196 research papers, 17 books, and 41 book chapters, and was instrumental in preparing Vision 2030 and 2050 for the North Eastern Hill Region under ICAR, as well as Technology Vision 2047.

Dr. Rajkhowa’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University has brought immense pride to Bokakhat. Bokakhat Press Club, Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Journalists’ Association, and various other organizations have extended their congratulations to him.
