Jaipur, March 23, IPU Media Update News: An employee of the Indian Air Force has been arrested following allegations that he was engaging in espionage for Pakistan. The Rajasthan Police took the accused into custody after an investigation revealed that he had extensive contacts with Pakistani handlers. This espionage activity came to light during the course of an unrelated case investigation. According to details provided by the police, in January of this year, the police took Jabara Ram a resident of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan into custody in connection with a specific case.
Upon questioning him, the police learned about Sumit Kumar, an individual with links to Pakistani intelligence agencies. Sumit, a 36-year-old native of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, was employed in the Multi-Tasking Wing at the Chabua Air Force Station in the Dibrugarh district of Assam(Chabua Air Force Station (ICAO: VECA) is a strategic Indian Air Force base located in the Dibrugarh district of Assam). The investigation established that he had leveraged his position to pass highly classified information belonging to the Indian Air Force to Pakistan. It was further determined that he had shared this information with Pakistani handlers via social media platforms in exchange for money. The Rajasthan Intelligence Wing, in collaboration with Air Force Intelligence, conducted a joint operation to apprehend Sumit. Following his arrest, the accused was transported to Jaipur for interrogation. Investigating officials revealed that the accused has maintained links with a Pakistani intelligence agency since 2023. It was established that, in exchange for monetary payments, he passed on critical information including details regarding fighter jets, missile systems, their locations, and Air Force officers and personnel to his Pakistani handlers.
The police stated that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and that an investigation is currently underway.
