Fifteen Arrested in Ghaziabad for Alleged Espionage Activities Involving Military and Sensitive Locations

In a significant security breach, the Ghaziabad police have detained fifteen individuals, including minors, on charges of espionage. These arrests stem from an ongoing investigation into allegations that they were filming military sites, railway stations, and other sensitive infrastructures in Uttar Pradesh, and subsequently sharing this sensitive information with foreign handlers.

The operation intensified recently when nine individuals were apprehended on Friday, following the earlier detention of six suspects on March 14. This series of arrests has raised alarm bells among security agencies, as it indicates a potential threat to national security. While the exact number of minors among those detained remains unclear, reports suggest that both adult and juvenile suspects were involved in these activities.

Among those arrested, law enforcement officials have identified four adults: Ganesh Giri (20), Vivek Rai (18), Gagan Prajapati (22), and Durgesh Nishad (26). According to Additional Commissioner of Police Raj Karan Nayyar, two other suspects, Naushad Ali and Sameer Ali, are currently on the run, prompting a manhunt for their capture. The police have made significant progress in the investigation, revealing that the detainees were allegedly tasked by their foreign handlers to set up solar-powered, SIM-based surveillance cameras in strategic locations.

Authorities have recovered two of these surveillance devices from railway stations, specifically in Sonipat, Haryana, and the Delhi cantonment area. The implications of such espionage activities are severe, as it raises concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and the potential for such information to be misused against national interests. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Zone), Dhawal Jaiswal, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the investigation is ongoing and aims to uncover the full extent of this espionage network.

The involvement of minors in such activities has sparked a broader discussion about the influence of foreign handlers on vulnerable youth. It highlights the need for increased vigilance and community engagement to prevent young people from being lured into potentially dangerous situations. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to delve deeper into the connections between the detained individuals and their foreign contacts, striving to dismantle any networks that may pose a risk to national security.
