FIR Registered Over Polling Station Video in Karbi Anglong, Probe Underway

Karbi Anglong, Assam | April 10, 2026
Authorities in Karbi Anglong have registered a First Information Report (FIR) after a video allegedly recorded inside a polling station went viral on social media during the ongoing elections in Assam.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding violations of election norms, particularly those related to voter privacy and the secrecy of the ballot. Officials confirmed that the district administration took swift action after the video surfaced online, prompting an immediate inquiry into the matter.
According to sources, the video appears to show visuals from inside a polling booth—an act that is strictly prohibited under guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. The use of mobile phones, cameras, or any recording devices within polling stations is banned to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise freely and without fear or influence.
Authorities stated that such violations not only undermine the integrity of the electoral process but also risk exposing sensitive aspects of voting procedures. “Maintaining the secrecy of the ballot is fundamental to a free and fair election,” an official said, adding that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
The FIR has been registered against unknown individuals, and an investigation is currently underway to identify the person or persons involved in recording and circulating the footage. Officials are also examining whether polling staff or security personnel were aware of the incident at the time.
The development comes amid the ongoing electoral process in Assam, where polling has largely remained peaceful with significant voter participation reported across districts. Despite isolated incidents, authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a transparent and secure voting environment.
The administration has also urged citizens to refrain from sharing sensitive or unverified content related to polling activities on social media, warning that such actions may attract legal consequences.
As the investigation progresses, further details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances under which the video was recorded and circulated.
