Malappuram: In a deeply saddening incident, Sunil (affectionately known as Suniyettan), a former employee of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and a resident of Alungal, Moonniyur, passed away today. He had been undergoing intensive treatment at Kozhikode MIMS Hospital following a severe accident that occurred late last month. The news of his demise has cast a wave of grief across the local community and among his former colleagues.
The tragic accident took place on the 30th of last month on the Alungal-Mannattampara Perunkollampuram Road. While Sunil was traveling by motorcycle near the residence of Thumbani Shivanandan, a coconut tree suddenly uprooted and fell directly onto him. The incident occurred in close proximity to a wedding pandal erected in the area, leaving him with critical injuries.
Sunil was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he remained in a serious condition for nearly two weeks. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries on April 12, 2026. Sunil was well-regarded in the Moonniyur region for his years of service at KSEB and his approachable nature, and his untimely passing is seen as a significant loss to the neighborhood.
