Fueling Concerns: India’s Energy Security at Risk Amid Global Oil Disruption and Violence in Manipur

In a stark warning, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has raised alarms about India’s energy security, attributing recent disruptions in oil supply to what he calls a “flawed foreign policy.” He emphasized that immediate action is required from the Union government, stating that millions could face hardships if no steps are taken. Gandhi criticized the current administration for allowing external influences, particularly from the United States, to dictate India’s energy purchases, questioning why the country is not free to choose its oil and gas suppliers independently.

On another front, the situation in Manipur has escalated as two Kuki men, reported missing since Wednesday, were discovered dead in a forested area near Thawai Kuki village in Kamjong district. Local authorities believe that the men were abducted by individuals from the Tangkhul Naga community. In response to this troubling incident, the Kuki-dominated council of Shangkai village has suspended traffic on the Ukhrul road due to safety concerns for the community’s members.

Interestingly, this tragic event is set against a backdrop of rising tensions in the region, where several individuals from the Tangkhul Naga community were reportedly abducted by Kuki persons the same day. They were reportedly released the following morning, but the cycle of violence raises serious questions about safety and community relations.

The ongoing conflict highlights deep-seated ethnic divisions in Manipur, which have been exacerbated by recent events. Leaders from both communities are now calling for dialogue to prevent further escalation and ensure peace in the region. As the nation grapples with energy security and regional stability, the implications of these incidents underscore the interconnectedness of geopolitical and local dynamics.
