Golaghat: Congress–BJP fight; 4 candidates, Doyang voters decide.

In the Golaghat constituency of Assam, a total of 200,653 voters will decide the future of the candidates. In the upcoming polling process of Assam legislative Election on April 9, the constituency will witness a four-cornered contest. BJP’s candidate and current Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Congress’s opposition alliance candidate Bitupan Saikia, former BJP leader Rubul Bora (now contesting as an independent), and another independent candidate Sushil Herenj are in the fray. Among them, BJP’s Ajanta Neog and Congress’s Bitupan Saikia have intensified their election campaigns. A key question among voters is whether Rubul Bora, once a BJP candidate, will cut into the votes of either major contender.

It is noteworthy that Ajanta Neog has contested and won five consecutive elections over the past 25 years from Golaghat constituency, holding several ministerial positions in the Assam cabinet. Currently serving as Finance Minister, she has sharply criticized Congress during her campaign rallies. On the other hand, Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia has focused his campaign on two major issues: the unresolved Assam–Nagaland border problem and the fact that land pattas have not yet been distributed in the greater Doyang region.

Meanwhile, Ajanta Neog has emphasized youth self-reliance, creating an environment for industrialization, giving top priority to solving Doyang’s problems, and building a prosperous Golaghat with equal development across all regions. Since the voters of Doyang play a decisive role in the constituency, both major candidates have made promises to resolve Doyang’s issues, making it the centerpiece of their campaigns. Ultimately, the choice of the people of Doyang will be revealed only on May 4, when the votes are counted
