Home Voting Gains Momentum as Over 26,000 Electors Cleared in Assam Polls
The Election Commission has approved more than 26,000 voters in Assam to cast their ballots through the home voting facility, marking a significant push towards inclusive elections. According to officials, 19,774 elderly citizens and 6,638 persons with disabilities (PwD) have been deemed eligible for this facility, ensuring that those unable to visit polling stations can still exercise their democratic rights.
The initiative, aimed at increasing voter participation, has witnessed strong response particularly from senior citizens, who form the majority of applicants. Election authorities have made special arrangements, including trained polling teams visiting voters’ homes with necessary सुरक्षा measures.
Officials stated that the move reflects the Commission’s commitment to accessibility and fairness in the electoral process. With the Assam polls approaching, the home voting option is expected to enhance turnout and set a positive example for future elections across the country.
