Injured Leopard from Sensowa Tea Estate,Assam Taken to Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Borjuri,Kaziranga

Last night, near a culvert on the road inside Section No. 31 of Sensowa Tea Estate in Jorhat,Assam locals spotted an injured leopard lying helplessly. They immediately informed the Forest Department. Later, with the cooperation of the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) at Borjuri, Bokakhat, Jorhat Forest Department rescued the leopard and brought it to the centre.

Despite adverse weather conditions, a rescue team led by veterinarian Dr. Mehdi Hasan, with the help of local people, managed to safely capture the injured leopard from the tea estate and bring it to CWRC. At present, the leopard is receiving preliminary treatment in the centre. As per the observation The animal is unable to stand on its own feet.

According to senior veterinarian Dr. Bhaskar Choudhury of CWRC, since the leopard was tranquilized yesterday, another dose of anesthesia could not be administered today. Only later, if required, will the leopard be tranquilized again for a detailed examination. The exact condition of its health will be known after that.

It is worth mentioning that leopards are commonly found roaming in Assam’s tea estates. However, due to human activities, use of chemical substances, and shrinking habitats, the survival of leopards has become increasingly threatened
