Kondapur Resident Alleges Overcharging, Raises Concerns Over Commercial Electricity Tariff

Hyderabad: A resident of Kondapur in Hyderabad has raised serious concerns regarding alleged overcharging of electricity bills in a residential building operating on a private prepaid system.

According to the complaint, occupants of the building are being charged approximately ₹8 per unit under what is described as a commercial electricity connection. The resident claims that monthly electricity bills over the past three months have ranged between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000, which is significantly higher than expected residential consumption.

The complainant has alleged that despite repeated representations to the building management and property owner, no corrective measures have been taken so far. Concerns have been raised regarding possible discrepancies in meter readings, lack of transparency in billing, and the application of commercial tariff rates for residential use.

The issue has also brought attention to the broader question of regulatory compliance, as the use of commercial electricity meters in residential premises may require scrutiny under existing electricity norms.

The resident has sought intervention from the relevant authorities, requesting an audit of meter readings, a detailed breakdown of electricity consumption, and rectification of any excess charges. A demand for fair and lawful tariff implementation has also been made.

It is learnt that the complainant may consider escalating the matter to the electricity regulatory authority and consumer court if the issue remains unresolved.

As of now, no official response has been received from the building management regarding the allegations.
