ITANAGAR, March 16: A massive landslide triggered by heavy rainfall struck Niti Vihar in Itanagar on Monday, leaving three people dead and two others injured, officials said.
According to Toko Babu, a total of six individuals were caught in the sudden landslide as a large section of earth collapsed in the area following continuous rainfall.
Rescue teams were immediately deployed and managed to pull out five people from the debris. Of them, three were found dead, while two sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Search and rescue operations are still underway as authorities continue efforts to locate the remaining individual believed to be trapped under the debris. Officials said challenging weather conditions and unstable terrain are making the operation difficult.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of landslide-prone areas in Arunachal Pradesh, especially during periods of intense rainfall.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert as heavy rains continue in the region.
