Maharashtra Government Extends OBC Welfare Schemes to Maratha Students Under New GR

Mumbai, June 5, 2026:

The Maharashtra government has reportedly issued a Government Resolution (GR) extending several welfare and educational schemes—earlier applicable to the Other Backward Classes (OBC)—to students from the Maratha community.

According to the GR, multiple schemes related to education, scholarships, skill development, and fee reimbursement will now also be made applicable to eligible Maratha students.

Key Schemes Extended

The government order states that the following OBC-linked schemes will now include Maratha students:

  • Post-matric scholarship scheme for OBC students
  • Driver and conductor training programme implemented through Sarathi
  • Scholarship schemes for primary, secondary, and higher secondary students
  • Skill training and vocational fee reimbursement schemes under ITI and PPP model
  • Fee reimbursement for students in aided and unaided colleges
  • Benefits for students pursuing professional courses outside Maharashtra
  • Eligibility for educational concessions across various approved courses
  • Admission and fee benefit provisions for seats filled after CAP process

Officials stated that these measures aim to improve educational access and reduce financial burden on students from the community.

Administrative Clarification

The order is part of a broader policy framework concerning social welfare schemes. However, no official statement confirms any change in constitutional reservation structure through this move.

Further details are expected from the concerned departments.
