Chennai: In a shocking incident of mob violence, a man was beaten to death by a group of people after he allegedly urinated from a moving auto-rickshaw and the urine reportedly splashed on a woman walking on the roadside.
The incident took place on Prakasam Salai in the Broadway area of Chennai during the early hours of Wednesday. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Kalaiselvan (30), a load-van driver and resident of Triplicane.
Incident Details
Police said Kalaiselvan was travelling in an auto-rickshaw when he allegedly urinated from inside the vehicle. Some of the urine reportedly fell on a woman who was walking along the road. The woman objected to the act, which led to a heated argument.
Soon, several people gathered at the spot and the situation escalated. The crowd allegedly assaulted the man brutally, beating him severely.
Death and Police Response
Police were alerted about the incident and rushed to the scene. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the individuals involved in the attack.
Investigation Underway
Police officials said a case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the members of the mob responsible for the assault. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
