At the first edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games wrestling competition held from March 25 in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh and Surguja, wrestlers from the Bokakhat Wrestling Academy represented Assam and brought pride to the state. In the wrestling competition held at Ambikapur in Surguja, Assam’s representatives from Bokakhat Wrestling Academy won medals Akash Kardong secured the bronze medal in the 67 kg category. Debi Daimari won the silver medal in the 62 kg category. Pritima Khaklary earned the silver medal in the 53 kg event.
After their medal victories, the athletes were warmly welcomed upon their return to their hometown Bokakhat. They were received in a grand procession from Bokakhat town to the Bokakhat Stadium, where they were honored with traditional phulam gamocha. The chief wrestling coach, Anustup Narah, was also felicitated at the event. The felicitation program was organized under the initiative of Golaghat District Wrestling Association’s secretary Bijoy Phukan. Present at the ceremony were Bokakhat District Sports Association’s secretary Sanjib Saikia, Golaghat District Wrestling Association’s president Noitik Borgohain, noted sports organizer from Bokakhat Subodh Bora and Bokakhat District Sports Association’s women’s cricket secretary Raja Rahman.
