Gangtok: A media delegation from Meghalaya currently on a six-day exposure visit to Sikkim met Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang during an interaction aimed at strengthening media engagement and sharing governance experiences between the two northeastern states.
The delegation consisted of ten members representing eight different media houses from Meghalaya, accompanied by two officials from the Press Information Bureau, Shillong. The visiting team was accompanied by Shri Manas Sarma from PIB Gangtok, Smt. Annapurna Alley, Secretary of the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department of Sikkim, Shri Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Shri Sunil Mothey, Director of the IPR Department.
During the interaction, Chief Minister Tamang shared insights into the state government’s development priorities and policies. He highlighted Sikkim’s strong focus on sustainable and environmentally responsible development, noting that the state has become a model for organic farming and environmental conservation in the country. He emphasized that these initiatives continue to strengthen Sikkim’s identity as the “Green State of the Nation.”
The Chief Minister also elaborated on various welfare schemes implemented by the government for the benefit of citizens, particularly in rural areas. He spoke about ongoing infrastructure development across several key sectors including healthcare, education, rural connectivity, tourism, and public services, which are contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the state.
The visiting journalists interacted with the Chief Minister and officials to better understand Sikkim’s governance model, development strategies, and environmental policies. The exposure visit is expected to provide the delegation with valuable insights into the state’s progress in sustainable development and people-centric governance.
The Meghalaya media team is scheduled to visit various locations across Sikkim during their stay to observe development projects, tourism initiatives, and environmental conservation efforts.
