A tragic road accident in East Delhi claimed the life of a 12-year-old schoolgirl on Friday morning after she was allegedly run over by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus in the Dallupura area of Mayur Vihar Phase 3.

The incident sparked outrage among local residents, with an angry crowd vandalising the bus following the accident.

The victim, identified as Kaina, was on her way to school with her father on a scooter when the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. According to preliminary reports, the DTC bus allegedly struck the scooter from behind, causing both riders to fall onto the road. The young girl reportedly came under the bus and sustained fatal injuries, dying at the scene.

Kaina was a student of East Point School in Vasundhara Enclave and lived with her family in Khichdipur. Following the incident, police detained the bus driver and seized the vehicle for further investigation.

The accident triggered anger among local residents, who allegedly damaged the bus before police arrived. Authorities quickly brought the situation under control and dispersed the crowd.

Police shifted the girl's body to the mortuary at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Officials said CCTV footage from the area is being examined to determine the exact sequence of events and establish responsibility for the accident.

An investigation is currently underway, and police have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
