AMC FOOD SAFETY TEAM SEALS UNLICENSED BEHRAMPURA UNIT, SEIZES 2,000 KG OF ADULTERATED TOMATO KETCHUP
Ahmedabad: 2,000 Kg of Ketchup-Like Sauce Seized, Manufacturing Unit Sealed
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed a food manufacturing unit in the Behrampura area after officials allegedly found it producing a ketchup-like sauce without using tomatoes. Approximately 2,000 kg of finished products and raw materials were seized during the inspection.
Product Sold Under the ‘Tasty Snack Touch Up’ Label
The unit, identified as M J F FOOD, was manufacturing products under the brand name “Tasty Snack Touch Up”. According to officials, the production process involved potato flakes, corn flour, sugar, salt, food colouring, acetic acid, preservatives and stabilisers instead of tomatoes.
Officials raised concerns that the product’s appearance and texture could lead consumers to mistake it for tomato ketchup. The inspection also identified discrepancies involving registration details and product labelling.
Licensing and Hygiene Concerns
AMC food safety officials reported concerns about the unit’s licensing and compliance with food safety requirements. The inspection also focused on the ingredients used in production and whether the product label accurately represented its contents.
Authorities said food businesses must maintain appropriate licences or registrations, keep the required records and ensure that product labels provide accurate information to consumers.
Approximately 2,000 Kg of Stock Seized
During the inspection, officials seized approximately 2,000 kg of finished sauce and raw materials. The unit was sealed, and the sale and distribution of the seized stock were prohibited pending further action.
Officials also collected a sample for laboratory testing. Further action will depend on the test results and the findings of the investigation.
Investigation into Registration Details
Officials found discrepancies in the food registration details displayed at the premises. The registration was associated with M J F FOOD, but authorities were checking the relevant details and the unit’s compliance status.
The case highlights the importance of food safety inspections, accurate ingredient labelling and regulatory compliance in the manufacturing of packaged sauces and other food products.
