Delhi CNG Price Hike: IGL Raises Rates by ₹3.89 Per Kg From August 29 Amid Global LNG Surge

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has become costlier in Delhi-NCR after Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a price hike of ₹3.89 per kg, effective from 6:00 AM on August 29, 2026. Following the revision, CNG in Delhi is priced at ₹86.98 per kg.

The company attributed the increase to a sharp rise in the cost of imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

IGL said international spot LNG prices have surged significantly amid disruptions to gas shipments linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict, particularly affecting movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

Global LNG Prices Put Pressure on CNG Rates

According to reports, global LNG prices have nearly doubled since July 2026. The disruption in LNG cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz, combined with increased demand from Europe as countries prepare for the winter season, has added further pressure to international gas prices.

IGL has stated that a significant share of the additional gas required to meet growing CNG demand is being sourced through imported spot LNG. The increase in input costs has therefore put pressure on the company's pricing.

New CNG Prices Across Delhi-NCR

With the latest revision, the price of CNG has increased across several areas supplied by IGL. The revised rates include:

Delhi: ₹86.98 per kg
Noida & Ghaziabad: ₹95.59 per kg
Gurugram: ₹92.01 per kg
Meerut: ₹95.47 per kg

The price revision is expected to increase operating costs for CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, taxis, buses and private vehicles across the region.

Impact on Commuters and Transport Operators

The hike could put additional financial pressure on transport operators who rely heavily on CNG. Higher fuel costs may also increase the possibility of fare revisions for some public and commercial transport services, although any fare changes would depend on decisions by the relevant authorities.

The latest increase is also significant because it comes amid continuing volatility in global energy markets. Reports indicate that this is the fifth CNG price increase in Delhi-NCR this year.
