Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, August 18, 2026, IPU Media Update: Eight labourers were killed and 32 others injured in a road accident near Chimka village on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway in Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The accident occurred at around 1:00 AM when a vehicle carrying labourers reportedly collided head-on with a dumper truck. According to police, the labourers were residents of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh and were returning home after completing paddy transplantation work in Gwalior.

Police said the driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control while attempting to avoid cattle on the road, following which the vehicle collided with the oncoming dumper.

Ramnaresh Yadav, Station House Officer (SHO) of Gohad Chauraha Police Station, said eight people died in the accident. Five victims died at the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital.

After receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot and, with the assistance of local residents, carried out rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Gohad, where they received medical treatment.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Responds

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims. He directed officials to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government for transporting the bodies of the deceased to their respective home districts and to ensure appropriate treatment for those injured.

The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the family of each deceased person, according to the statement issued following the accident.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
