The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for widespread rainfall, including heavy to extremely heavy showers, across several Northeastern states over the next five days. Meghalaya is expected to receive the most intense rainfall, while Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are also likely to witness persistent heavy rain.

According to the IMD, the continuing downpour could trigger flooding, waterlogging, landslides, and disruptions to road transport in vulnerable areas. Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying and hilly regions to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.

The weather department has also cautioned that overflowing rivers and saturated soil may increase the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas already affected by the ongoing monsoon. Emergency response teams and local administrations are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if conditions worsen.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from flood-prone locations, and keep track of official IMD updates. Travelers heading to the Northeast are also advised to check weather conditions before planning their journey, as heavy rain may impact road connectivity and public transport.
