Serilingampally, Chandanagar, August 12, 2026: “Knowledge, concentration and ethical values are essential for young people to reach greater heights in life,” said Acharya Chivukula Usha during an awareness programme organised on the occasion of International Youth Day at Serilingampally Junior College, BHEL.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Friends Welfare Association Convenor Tadiboyina Ramaswamy Yadav. College Principal G. Ravinder presided over the event. Acharya Chivukula Usha, from the Health Physiology Department of the Central University, attended as the chief guest and addressed the students.
Speaking on the occasion, Usha explained the significance of International Youth Day and said that the United Nations has been observing the day every year on August 12 since 2000 with a specific theme. She highlighted the importance of youth in education, employment, training and political, cultural, social and economic development.
She said the strength and progress of any nation depend greatly on its youth. Young people should act responsibly and contribute to the welfare of their families, society and country. She also encouraged students to make effective use of new technologies and develop concentration, determination and hard work to achieve progress in education and employment.
Usha cautioned young people against harmful habits such as alcohol consumption, smoking and drug use, and urged them not to waste valuable time excessively on social media and the internet. She stressed the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being through healthy food, yoga, meditation and positive habits.
She further said that India, with its large young population, can achieve greater development when young people acquire quality education, develop skills and make use of emerging employment opportunities and technologies. Parents, teachers, civil society and governments should also pay special attention to the overall development of youth, she added.
As part of the programme, students took a pledge to stay away from harmful habits, uphold national unity and integrity, and contribute to the development of the country.
