K. L. Garg was a distinguished Punjabi writer, humorist and satirist whose literary journey enriched Punjabi literature for decades. Born on April 13, 1943, he contributed nearly 60 books covering humour, satire, stories, novels, essays, travel writing and translations.
His books, including Dekh Kabira Hassia, Shaitan Di Diary, Tau Rangee Ram, Bebakian and Daftar Vich Bhoond, established him as a distinctive voice in Punjabi satire. His writing made readers laugh while encouraging them to think deeply about social contradictions and human behaviour.
Garg also wrote the popular column Garg Bani in the daily Ajit. Through his translations of world literature, he further connected Punjabi readers with international writers.
A recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Garg remained deeply committed to literature and Punjabi humour. He passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 83. His writings will continue to preserve his enduring literary legacy.
